How to Save Money On Gas- Safety is more important
* Drafting is dangerous. All the gas savings in the world will not matter a bit if you get yourself into an accident while ‘trying to save gas money’. Safe driving habits will save a lot more then gas money than risky driving, and maybe even save lives. Slow down. Be careful.
* Be very careful when shifting into neutral when going down hills. You may find yourself going a lot faster than you thought you would. This is actually illegal in some jurisdictions. When you are in neutral going down hills, you don’t have the actual resistance of the engine to help, you are just relying on brakes, and that is not safe. The gas savings may not be really worth the risk.
* Coasting in neutral is also dangerous as you lack engine braking before a collision.
* Be sure to keep to right lanes if you’re not going to keep up with speeding traffic, and allow other traffic to pass. Going slow or too slow and not keeping up with the traffic rate can be hazardous. Even in the right lane, keep to the minimum posted speed limit.
* If you drive slowly enough on a long enough trip to add hours, be sure to take extra breaks. Fatigue can be very dangerous. If you get into an accident because you were trying to save money on gas, what benefit was that?
*Be careful about modifying your car to save money on gas. There are things out there that work and there are things that are gimmicky. So check with your mechanic when you are going to try something to save money on gas. You could end up doing more damage than good when you try something your car just to save some money on gas, and it ends up causing major damage.
Save Money on Gas matters but safety if more important.
