Utilize cruise control if your car has it. Otherwise, monitor your speed. Combine trips. Most cars are more efficient when their engines are warm. Combining trips will also reduce the amount of back and forth driving, reducing your total mileage.  If you can combine your trips to being during off peak, you can save money on gas as you are consolidating, and you are staying out of traffic.

Avoid idling. An idling engine wastes gasoline. Turn your car off if you are going to be stopped more than 30 seconds (this is actually a law in many European locations). Unless you have an old carbureted engine, you won’t use more gas restarting your engine than you would have by idling.  This may mean you have to stop using the drive through!  Think about it, how much time do you save at the drive through?  I think you actually spend more time waiting…and idling.  And that means when you are waitng for the kids, turn off the car and roll down the windows instead of using the AC!
